After spending time in Bali, Thailand, and then Vietnam, we’ve come back home to New Zealand to help look after a sick relative.
This experience has given me a new perspective on life—you never really know when something like this can happen. It’s made me realize how important it is to go and do the things that matter to you now.
We aren’t promised tomorrow.
I also need to acknowledge the privilege I have in even being able to make that choice; me being even able to search for stuff that matters to me instead of just surviving.
Since being back, we’ve had the chance to help renovate their house. Working in IT, I’ve never really used my hands in any trade, so it’s been something different. We’ve painted walls and roofs, wallpapered a few rooms, and even helped assemble a shower (though my role there was mostly minimal).
In my downtime:
A friend recently sent me an Infrastructure Engineer role based in the US that's fully remote. The company, Far.ai, has an incredible mission. The role itself is broadly scoped and pays well, so I’m finishing up my research on the company to decide whether it’s something I truly want to pursue. Once that’s done, I’ll apply. 🧑💻
Fun fact: they’re the team that discovered vulnerabilities in Google’s Superhuman Go AI! (see more here)
Anyways, take care and go well!
